therapeutic hiking

The grounds of the former Athens Lunatic Asylum no longer support orchards and vegetable gardens, but they are beautiful in their hundreds of acres of wildness.

Perfect for hiking right about now with wildflowers, berries and ripening pawpaws everywhere.  During the moral treatment era at the asylum some patients had the freedom to hike the grounds, others were taken for “airings”. Hiking and  beautiful landscape:  both antidotes for depression.

  1. George Eberts says:

And those grounds are perfect for STARWALKS! The O.U. Dept. of Physics & Astronomy, together with the Southeast Ohio Astronomical Society sponsors a couple of “starwalks” each quarter but the schedule for fall ’11 isn’t finalized yet. Soon come.

  2. George when you have the Starwalk dates send ‘em on and I’ll post them.
