At last week’s launch for Asylum on the Hill a display of artifacts from the asylum included this set of keys made available from the archives of Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare.
A former staff member shared with me that when staff began dressing in street clothes rather than uniforms it was sometimes hard to tell staff from patients, except that staff wore keys. Then patients took to wearing keys as well. Does anyone else have recollections of asylum roles and how they were differentiated by clothing and accessories?
