mechanicsburg

Here’s a photo of me with Ron Luce, Director of the Athens County Historical Society & Museum, this afternoon. I was on hand to give a talk about Asylum on the Hill and Ron was showing a new contribution to the museum, the Bingham Bible which belonged to one of Athens’ pioneer families.

At the event I learned from Judge Goldsberry about Mechanicsburg, adjacent to the asylum grounds, which sprang up from all the stone masons, brick masons and other craftsmen who came to Athens to work on the construction of the Asylum. I am looking forward to an opportunity to talk again with Mr. Goldsberry to learn more.
